Time moves back to where judgement is
Most of the time on an engagement does not go into analysis: it goes into formatting, retyping and hunting for the right file.
What we see in firms
The file lives in a tree of workbooks: one for the trial balance, one for the cycles, one for the summary, plus the versions sent by email. When the corrected trial balance arrives late in the engagement, every file has to be reworked — and nobody knows for certain which ones actually were.
The risk is not only lost time. It is the financial statement that no longer matches the general ledger, discovered by the next statutory auditor.
What SANKOFA changes
- The trial balance is imported once; balance sheet, income statement and cycles follow from it automatically
- Consistency checks run on every import and flag differences before the review
- Adjusting entries are recorded in the file, never in a separate document
- The general ledger, matching and aged balance answer questions without pulling another export
- The complete file and the report export to Word and Excel, fully formatted
What disappears
- Retyping between workbooks
- Diverging versions
- Rework after a corrected trial balance
- Files pieced together at review time
